Dade County is created on 4 February 1836 and has operated under a home rule charter as a two tier federation since 1957. Voters rename it Miami-Dade County on 13 November 1997. It provides municipal services to the unincorporated communities of South Dade and oversees the CRAs, parks, transit and land use planning across the corridor.
