The Miami-Dade Transportation Planning Organization adopts the Strategic Miami Area Rapid Transit Plan on 21 April 2016, naming six rapid transit corridors including the South Dade TransitWay from Dadeland South to the SW 344th Street terminal. In August 2018 the TPO picks bus rapid transit as the locally preferred alternative for the South corridor. In June 2022 the plan becomes the SMART Program in its implementation phase.
