Miami-Dade County and UF IFAS publish the Evaluation of Agricultural Land Use Trends and Outlook in October 2023, projecting the farmland needed in 2030, 2040 and 2050 to keep the industry viable. County planning figures from the 2022 Census of Agriculture put crop value at 1.135 billion dollars, economic impact at 1.55 billion dollars and direct farm payroll at 302 million dollars, on 52,551 acres classed agricultural in 2025. The 2001 UF study found about 1.08 billion dollars of output and 14,795 jobs for 1998, and farmland has fallen from about 120,000 acres in the 1950s to about 59,000 acres in the 2017 census.
