Under a 2020 economic development agreement Miami-Dade County sells Amazon 77 acres near Homestead Air Reserve Base, reported at $3 million below the top appraisal, for a warehouse of at least one million square feet with 325 jobs at an average $32,000 wage over a 17 year operating contract; the county had received the land free from the Air Force in 2004 to spur economic development. The building receives its certificate of occupancy on 21 June 2022 but is not equipped or staffed, and in September 2023 Amazon asks for a one year delay citing supply chain and inflation pressures. Amazon's investment in the Naranja and Opa-locka buildings is reported at about $129 million. In August 2026 Amazon announces about $1 million in grants to 13 South Dade nonprofits at a Miami Foundation event.
