The Beacon Council is founded in 1985 as an outgrowth of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce and is the county's official public private economic development organisation. With the Miami-Dade Defense Alliance it channels the 2005 federal grant for the Homestead base Joint Land Use Study.
