A 1972 referendum sets aside the Black Point site for a marina and the plan is accepted after eleven years of permitting, with the marina operating by the early 1980s. Hurricane Andrew destroys the marina in 1992 and it is rebuilt. It has boat ramps, a dockside restaurant, bike paths and a jetty reaching 1.5 miles into Biscayne Bay, and is described in Cutler Bay sources as the largest public marina in the Miami area.
