The Dade County Commission creates the Metropolitan Transit Authority by ordinance in 1960. The agency becomes Miami-Dade Transit and now sits in the Department of Transportation and Public Works, which builds and runs the South Dade Transitway and its bus rapid transit stations opened in 2025.
