The Miami-Dade Aviation Department acquires 960 acres of farmland at 28700 SW 217th Avenue in 1963 for a general aviation field about three miles northwest of Homestead. It has two asphalt runways and a turf strip and hosts flight training, skydiving, gliders and two fixed base operators. The county commission renames it Miami Homestead General Aviation Airport in December 2014. Homestead Air Reserve Base to the east keeps the area's only long military runway.
Detail: 960 acres; runways 18/36 of 4,000 feet and 10/28 of 3,000 feet
