US 1 is designated on 11 November 1926 over the eastern Dixie Highway; in Miami-Dade the stretch from the county line through Florida City, Homestead, Naranja and Perrine to Miami is South Dixie Highway. With the Overseas Highway complete in 1938, US 1 is extended over the Keys to Key West. The busway and the TransitWay run about 100 feet west of it for 20 miles.
