FDOT buys the abandoned FEC right of way in 1988 and builds the first 8.2 miles of the busway in 1997. It contributes $100 million to the South Corridor BRT project, widens Krome Avenue in the 2010s and builds the Krome Avenue truck bypass in 2020 and 2021.
