The Homestead branch of Shorty's BBQ opens on 1 October 1957 under manager Virgil Shiver, who buys it in 1960 and renames it Shiver's Bar-B-Q. Hurricane Andrew wrecks the restaurant in August 1992 and it reopens on 3 September 1993 at 28001 South Dixie Highway.
