Homestead incorporates in 1913 and its downtown grows around the Florida East Coast Railway depot and Krome Avenue. The Homestead Historic Downtown District, bounded by NW 4th Street, South Railroad Avenue, SE 1st Road and North Krome Drive, joins the National Register of Historic Places on 19 November 2007. Hurricane Andrew damages the district in 1992 and the Main Street programme and the CRA lead its rebuilding from 1993 and 1994.
