Miami Dade College opens its fifth campus in Homestead in September 1990 with 350 students in the basement of the First Baptist Church, then builds a six acre campus with one 20,000 square foot building and nine portables. Hurricane Andrew damages the campus in August 1992 and enrollment falls by 53 percent. Four new buildings follow by 1996, an aviation building later, and a 60,000 square foot Student Success Center opens in 2023. The campus serves close to 14,000 credit and non credit students a year.
