Homestead Main Street is designated a Florida Main Street community in 1993 after Hurricane Andrew and runs downtown events such as Krome Avenue Goes Cajun and free weekend trolleys to the national parks. By 2014 the state credits it with 94 rehabilitation projects worth more than 36 million dollars and 121 new downtown businesses. The state names it Program of the Month in 2014 and 2018.
