Thirteen of eighteen voters incorporate Islandia at the end of 1960 on the 33 northernmost Keys, planning hotels, golf courses and a six lane road on Elliott Key; the mayor bulldozes the Spite Highway across the key in 1968. Federal land purchases stop the plan and Islandia becomes part of Biscayne National Monument in 1968. The county abolishes the city on 16 March 2012.
