Community leaders found Centro Campesino in 1972 in response to the living conditions of farmworkers in South Dade. After Hurricane Andrew in 1992 it adds programmes for farmworker children and later builds more than 500 single family homes and 130 rental units across eleven counties. It runs an afterschool centre, homeownership counselling and disaster recovery from 35801 SW 186th Avenue.
