The University of Florida opens the research station at 18905 SW 280th Street in 1929 to help farmers grow crops in subtropical Florida, including mangoes, papayas, avocados and tomatoes. It marks ninety years in December 2019 and is the main research and extension base for Redland agriculture. Its director estimates in 2023 that county agriculture supports about 14,000 people.
