Flagler sends engineer William J. Krome to survey routes for the Key West extension in 1902 and 1903; Krome rejects the Cape Sable route and recommends the Keys route by Jewfish Creek. He settles at Homestead and Krome Avenue carries his name. He dies in 1929.
