William D. Horne, born in Taylor County in 1875, arrives at the Homestead depot in October 1904 as the first person to buy a lot at the new town site and builds a store with living quarters that serves as supply store, rooming house and first post office. The building becomes the Hotel Redland in 1934. He dies in 1957.
