Otis Wallace organises a voter registration drive in 1976 and wins a commission seat, then in 1984 at 32 becomes Florida City's first Black mayor when the city elects its first majority Black commission. He serves 42 years without term limits, during which the city's population doubles, and retires in early 2026.
