The 444 acre estate on Old Cutler Road combines the 1900 Richmond Cottage and the 1922 Stone House. After the death of Deering's daughter in 1982 the state buys the land in 1985 for 22.5 million dollars and Miami-Dade Parks runs it; it is listed on the National Register in 1986. Hurricane Andrew's surge of more than 16 feet wrecks it in 1992 and restoration takes seven years and 7.2 million dollars before it reopens in 1999.
