The Tatum Brothers promote a colony called Detroit to Michigan buyers in 1910 and the first thirty families arrive that year, lodging in Homestead while their houses are built. Edward Stiling advertises it weekly in Detroit newspapers in 1911. The colony takes the name Florida City at incorporation on 29 December 1914.
