The Cutler post office opens in 1883 and settlers cut the path to Coconut Grove in 1884 that becomes Old Cutler Road; the town has 75 residents that year. The railway bypasses Cutler for Perrine in 1903 and the town declines; Charles Deering buys most of it between 1914 and 1917 for his estate. The Cutler CDP counts 17,390 people in 2000 and is absorbed into Palmetto Bay in 2002.
