Burger King builds its world headquarters on 80 acres at 17777 Old Cutler Road in 1988. Hurricane Andrew damages the campus in 1992, the company returns in 1993 and leaves in 2002, after which the buildings become the Palmetto Bay Village Center office park. A court approved settlement allows 413 apartments, 42 townhomes, a 120 room hotel, 280,000 square feet of retail and 315,000 square feet of office, with 22 acres to be conveyed to the village as park land. Owner Goddard Investment Group lists the site for sale in 2025.
